We recently caught up with our ambassador Thais, where she shared her thoughts on recovering from injuries to the best tricks for beginners!
WHEN DID YOU START SKATING? WHAT WAS IT THAT FIRST INTERESTED YOU?
I first started rollerskating by the end of 2018. I really liked the aesthetics and the freedom that emanated from all these amazing skaters.
WE KNOW YOU'VE HAD A COUPLE OF INJURIES FROM SKATING, IS THERE ANY ADVICE YOU CAN GIVE FELLOW SKATERS WHO ARE CURRENTLY DEALING WITH AN INJURY?
Patience is the key. I know it can be very overwhelming, especially if it’s your first injury. At first, you get sad and upset. The only thing you think about is going back skating quickly but injuries take time. It’s very important not to hurry and have good physical therapy/re-education! I think every injury comes for a reason, it opens new opportunities and boosts your creativity.
YOU ALREADY HAVE LOADS OF TRICKS UNDER YOUR BELT, IS THERE A PERSONAL FAVOURITE? WHICH TRICKS WOULD YOU RECOMMEND TO BEGINNERS?
The full-cab is definitely one of my favorite tricks! For beginners I would suggest trying pumping in the ramp, 180s, plate stalls, Marylin stall (or toe stop Marylin) manuals, crossovers, shoot the duck... There are so many possibilities.
IS THERE ANYTHING YOU WISH SOMEONE HAD TOLD YOU WHEN YOU FIRST STARTED SKATING?
I think I’ve been lucky enough to be surrounded by amazing people who gave me the best advice when I first started skating. It’s been really important to get to know other skaters, share tricks and learn from one another, I think that helps to motivate you!
WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT YOUR ROOKIE SKATES?
I really love the aesthetic of them. They also are very comfortable and have good ankle support, which is VERY important! Especially if you go park skating.
SO FAR ON YOUR SKATE JOURNEY, WHAT ACHIEVEMENT HAVE YOU BEEN MOST PROUD OF?
I think my biggest achievement was completing my 365 days skate challenge! It was very hard and exhausting but I’m so happy I did it!
WHAT CAN WE EXPECT FROM THAIS' SKATING IN THE FUTURE?
You can expect many more adventures and a lot of new skating content! I’m looking forward to traveling and meeting skaters all around the world! To be continued...
